2025 in Retrospect
The last day of the year. Reflections on habits, discipline, growth, and the messy journey of becoming better. Here's to doing it, not just saying it.
2025 in Retrospect
Well, here we are. The last day of the year. The one day when everyone suddenly becomes a philosopher, a gym coach, and a financial advisor all at once. I'm no exception.
2025 was… a mixed playlist. It taught me that habits don't need an invitation to move in. Some good ones tried. A few bad ones unpacked their bags and refused to leave. I chose comfort too often. I let cheap dopamine rent space in my head, and discipline… well, discipline visited occasionally, stayed for a month, then ghosted.

I did try though. Fitness wasn't a complete myth this year, it did made some appearances. I locked in, experimented with routines, changed a few lifestyle habits, and while I gained a bit of weight (hello tummy), I also gained something better: awareness - awareness changes things. You can't un-know what you now see.. and that alone puts me ahead of previous years. Progress doesn't always look aesthetic. Sometimes it just looks honest.

Socially, I learned something important. Not everyone needs continued access to you. Some acquaintances don't mean harm (some do sha, they come to steal and destroy), but they come with momentum in the wrong direction. A single evening can undo a hundred good steps if you're not careful. Protecting energy is not arrogance, it's maintenance.
December had its fun moments. Might have been the centre stage of the year as I barely remember events of the past 12 months. I tried to have fun, might have been selfish, might have been indulgent, but I hope I showed up as a good friend regardless. Calls still give me anxiety. I'm still learning to ask for help instead of carrying everything solo. I enjoy independence, but I also want people who push me further than comfort ever could.

Looking ahead to 2026, the goal is simple and uncomfortable: leave the overwhelming shell. Use time better. Pick up physical hobbies, maybe learn a new language, and choose action over hesitation. Because free will without discipline is chaos, and discipline without action is just intention.

As 2026 waits at the door, I'm grateful. For old friends, new connections, and the people who hold me accountable, even when I resist it. If you crossed paths with me this year, thank you. You mattered more than you know. And also thanks to LLMs for making everyone of us a better writer. AI is the future!
Here's to doing it, not just saying it 🥂.
